Tangled Threads

Day Five continued

Well, I got a little bit of work done this evening on the dresses for Belle. Would have gotten more done, but one thing slowed me down: rolling yarn into balls. Sometimes I really wish I had an electric ball winder, but even if I did have one, I probably still would be rolling balls by hand, lol. I hate how skeins and center pull balls/cakes collapse as you use more yarn. I prefer to work from balls, from the outside. So when taking on a big project, I have to start with rolling balls of yarn. Not always the easiest thing to do, but now I have a nice little wooden yarn ball roller that helps. I don't have a picture, but if you imagine Hermionie's wand from Harry Potter, you will pretty much know what it looks like.

Okay, enough rambling, time for pictures, but before I get to project pictures, I wanted to share some pictures I took tonight. Tonight and tomorrow night especially, Venus and Jupiter appear the closest in the sky to each other that they have and will for a while. It was so bright not only could I see it from my apartment window, but I could take a picture of it! Take a look (Jupiter is the brighter one on the right):

Now, if you turn completely around and look in the eastern sky, you will see a bright red "star," but this is no star. This is Mars shining bright in the sky:

Mercury is also showing right now, on the western horizon directly underneath Jupiter and Venus, but I could not see it due to the horizon still being light and buildings in the way. This will be the line up in the Northern Hemisphere for the next day or so.

Okay, now on to princess dresses! I was looking through pictures of the Disney princesses online, trying to find the last few pictures that I needed and I realized that I needed an apron for Belle to accompany her blue jumper and white blouse outfit.

So I began it tonight. Yes, it is actually white. I'm not sure why it is showing in pink. Not quite sure why the picture is on it's side either. I'm still working on figuring out how to post pictures to my blog. That's actually about five rows of work. The needles are 2 mm needles. For the non-crafting people who are following my progress, that is about the size around of a toothpick! So tiny stitches!

With the addition of another set of DPNs (double pointed needles for non-crafty people), I was able to put another dress in the works tonight. Worked a couple of rows on it before I had to call it a night. Can you guess which dress it is?

Yep! Belle is getting her ball gown! The dress that started the whole idea in my mind. I just couldn't put off starting on this one anymore. This has to be my favorite princess dress of all time! Too bad I am a red head and can't wear yellow. :(

One other thing that was accomplished today was going and getting the other yarn for her Christmas dress. In the movie, The Enchanted Christmas, the inlay and sleeves of her dress are actually white, but the most popular version of the dress (which also happens to be the dress on the cover of the DVD) has the inlay and sleeves as gold. So I found a gold sparkle yarn today to go for the inlay of the Christmas dress. Need to figure out how I'm going to do the flower though.

That leaves the only dress/outfit of Belle's still needing materials is her green dress. I know which yarns will be perfect for it, but every time I go to look for it, places are sold out. Thinking I may have to do a special order for it, or go directly to the company and order it online.

Oh, and I remembered one other important item at the craft store today while getting the yarn for the Christmas dress: snaps! The white blouse now has two snaps on it, though I think it is going to get a third snap tomorrow. Who know that 4/0 size snaps were so darn hard to work with? They are tiny! I did work a couple more rows of the blue jumper as well, but forgot to take a picture of it before I put away my project bag. Will try really hard tomorrow to remember to take a picture of the blue jumper; it is coming along nicely.

This project has been so much fun to do already, and I hope it continues to stay fun. Strangely enough, the seek and find of all the princesses' dresses and watching all the movies to make sure I have all the pictures of the dresses has been nearly as much fun as making the dresses. Same goes with looking through dress patterns, though I have a feeling by the end of it all, some of the dresses may be designed by yours truly from the stitch on up! We'll see. It was a disaster when I tried designing clothes in crochet, but knitting just seems to be more natural for clothes.

Well, enough rambling for me. It's time to hit the sack and start anew in the morning.

202 Days Remaining!
