Day.....uh...I've Lost Count

Well, I really had started this project with the intention of updating my blog at the end of the day before I went to bed. Time kind of escapes me when I am crafting it appears though. So here I am, once again, updating in the morning before going to work of what I did yesterday.

I really meant to work on multiple dresses yesterday, but apparently, "winging" sleeves (no pun intended) took longer than I thought it was going to. That, and taking two hours at my apartment complex's laundry facilities to do ONE load of SOCKS kind of took a big chunk of my evening. Will we ever get our laundry facilities fixed? Highly doubtful.

Test Pattern
Before I get back to Aurora's dress though, I have another teeny project to share. As I've been searching for patterns for the remaining dresses, I have been wondering how to do Jasmine's top seen here. I couldn't really find a pattern for it, but I got to thinking that it wasn't really all that different than one of the other dresses which was off the shoulder. So while I was waiting on my laundry, I found a spare skein of yarn in the Caron Simply Soft (which is mostly what is being used, along with some Red Heart Soft and I Love This Yarn - regular and sport weight) to try to figure something out.

I didn't take too many pictures of it, but here I am measuring it against the Snow White doll to see how long it is. I would say that I was making up the pattern myself, but that would not be completely correct. It started with the shoulder drape from the pattern I am using for Belle and Aurora's ball gowns.

And just one more picture. I think it looks pretty darn close to the top. Here it is worked in garter stitch (the bumpy stitch in knitting for you non-knitters), but all of the outfits are worked over all in stockinette (the most easily recognized knit stitch). When I make it for Jasmine, I think I am going to try it in stockinette for matching purposes. If it doesn't look right, I can always frog it and do it again in garter stitch. This took me less than an hour to make. I think most of Jasmine's outfits will go quickly, but of course, I say that before I have tried pants, which I might try this afternoon with the spare yarn I found. Poor Snow White needs something for her bottom half. Lol.

Princess Dress
And as I said earlier, while my intention had been to work on multiple dresses last night, it didn't happen. But I did get some good work done on Aurora's ball gown. Here I am measuring the blue part against the doll to see if it is long enough as I have done it to the length of the pattern. I wasn't completely satisfied with the length, so I added a couple more rows so that the light blue on the waist would be more in the correct position.

This picture is of the piece after I finished the dark blue bodice and have detatched it from the working yarn (AKA the skein/ball). I didn't want the stitch markers to stay on the entire time I was working on the skirt because they would get in the way, so I decided to make the sleeves after the bodice was detatched from the working yarn.

As the pattern I am using does not have sleeves in it, I'm making the sleeves up as I go. I prayed that it wouldn't look odd, because I have not had luck making up doll clothing before. So, I had no idea how many rows would be long enough. I knew I hadn't done enough, but I wasn't sure how long it was. So on to the doll the top goes for measurement.

And measuring again. Just almost long enough, but I wanted it just a little longer.

A couple of hours later, I have sleeves!!!! Well, almost. They are just tucked around Ariel's arms at this point. And a ton of yarn ends to darn in. Yuck.

One thing I learned in making Belle's white blouse is that if you leave the yarn ends to darn in last, the ends start to unravel. So here is the top with the sleeves sewn together and all the yarn ends on the sleeve area darned in. The couple of ends you see in the picture are the ends that aren't in a position that can be darned in yet.

I didn't get much more work done on the dress last night, but I did get the light blue added for the points at her waist, see:

And I figured out why I was worried it wasn't looking like Aurora's dress. Does it look like Ariel's outing dress to anyone elese? I think today it is going to get moved to a different doll so my brain doesn't associate the dress with Ariel's dress.
