Not much new progress today, so I don't have any pictures. Had to take a kitty to the vet early this morning, and then work, and then a scavanger hunt at Barnes and Noble, and by then it was time for a nap....uh which turned in to five hours....and then a book report. So......I haven't gotten much done in the way of working on the dresses, but, I know several who aren't on Rav have asked about the story behind the dresses, so I thought I would share it here.
WARNING!!!!! TEAR JERKER STORY AHEAD!!!!!
This is the story behind the massive dress project involving approximately 200 days, 10 princesses, and some various sidekicks and characters.
The idea for this project began about a month prior to the begin date when a co-worker and I were chatting during down time at work. She was trying to come up with an idea for her daughter’s fourth birthday this coming October. She knew it was going to be Disney princesses, at least Belle, but probably all of them. She thought about doing the doll cakes and I said if she wanted, I could make her the dresses for the dolls for her daughter to have after the party. She loved the idea and asked if it would be possible for me to make all the dresses, not just the famous ball gowns. Thus, the project was born.
But there is more to the story. The day after Christmas there was a robbery at my work. A beloved co-worker was shot and killed at point blank range. This co-worker was an uncle to the little girl. He is sorely missed by everyone who knew him. I know he would have made this birthday (really the first one she is going to be old enough to remember) very special for her, and in a way, I’m helping to do that by creating this massive doll wardrobe for her. It also has become part of the healing process for me, each stitch being a little bit of a remembrance and memorial to him.
198 Days Remaining!!!!
